I have started to explore creating digital paintings using a Wacom Cintiq tablet. There is a gallery of images at the bottom of this pages showing early experiments.
These are made in a totally different way from paintings and the early examples are essentially an extension of the early airbrushing retouching process, using my photographs as a starting point. I use a programme called Sketchbook and ‘paint’ wet on wet using a ‘brush’ loaded with ‘oil’. Technically it would be almost impossible to do this on canvas without creating a muddy mess.

The latest images are made using a photo on screen as a motif in the background

and drawing directly onto the tablet using a combination of ‘brushes’ and very diluted, transparent colours. This would almost be impossible in watercolour and presents its own challenges.
